Scribe for the Day

Do you know what scribing is? What is the purpose behind scribing? Look at the following class examples and tell me what you think:

http://annesmith9h.blogspot.com/

We are going to be scribing our class sessions. You will sign up for at least one scribe day per semester. What do you want our scribes to look like? to sound like? What requirements should be in place? How do we assess good scribes?

It looks like scribing is an in depth overview of what happend during a specific time. You make sure you give enough detail so the reader knows what went on while they were of the scene but not too long that they lose interest. For our class the scribe should be detailed but snappy, interesting writing and knows what they are talking about. The Scribe for the day should most definately be paying attentiion to the teachers as well as the students and what they are saying becasue you should have bothe perspectives for the reader to look at. For the scribe have fun with it but be serious with it at the same time.

The scribe explains what went on during a specific time. In this case it is during one class so the scribe should give a brief overview of the important things that went on. These things should be what was worked on in class, what was handed out and what was assigned for homework. However, I think the posts should be kept simple, only the important things should be added. Not every word needs to be written down.

The scribe is the lucky person who gets to take notes for the day. They must remember, though, that they are recording what is happening not only for people who are at class and may recall more details as they read what the scribe wrote, but also for the people who may not have been at class at all. The scribe needs to write down what we talk about in class, but not everything. Hopefully they recognize the important information such as discussions about our books and don't include the tangent about somebody's dog; Samantha said only the important things should be added. The scribe should be detailed, but concise as well, because if there is a page written about the day I don’t know how valuable it will be. I agree with Karm that the scribe should have fun, but keep in mind that we do need to know what happened. Some of the blogs I read would have really annoyed me, such as the one that had a ton of entertaining English expressions but very little information. It might be kind of funny for the scribe to wear some kind of special hat and maybe use a pen with a feather taped to it; that’s really all I can think of as to what a scribe should look like.

Scribing is recording the main details of an event that takes place. The purpose behind scribing is to find out what went on during this certain event, such as cases in court where the details could be relevant in solving a case. For our class, the scribes should put detail into what they write. Although it would be easier to write it simply, the details would be better in understanding the material assigned. Good scribes would show detail the most important things, and not in gossip talked about in class. They would mostly focus on what needed to be done.

Scribing is a summary of what happened in class on a certain day. I think this is a good idea and can benefit everyone. It would also be good to have exact dates, so that the student absent clearly understands when something is due.

Scribing is a synopsis of what goes on in the classroom for each given day. The scribe needs to give plenty of in-depth details of important aspects and what is said during class so those who may have missed class can see what happened, as if they were actually there. The blogs should look professional. It should be simple to follow and explain what occurred in class and what is due in the future or any important points someone should know. The scribe just needs to pay close attention in class which is basically a given. And as for what a scribe should look like, I’ll have to agree with Emily L.

Scribing is like what eveyone else said. An in depth overview of what happened during class. To make sure that this is fully effective i think that the scriber needs to add in little details that will make everyone else feel like they were their. Also try not to forget anything, because one little piece of infornmation that is important to someone might not be to someone else.

The consensus about scribing, at least that which I have deduced from the entries previous to my own, seems to be that the scribe is to provide a general image of that day's class period in a clear and concise manner. There is no need to write a novel in order to pass on the notes of the day. The scribe is to pay attention in class and to clarify anything that would need clarification. I would assume that the purpose of the scribe is to make sure that at least one student is extremely awake and mentally present in class in order to pass on his/her knowledge to those that end up reading his/her entry that night.

The scribe is the person who gets to take notes on what goes on during class on their assigned day. They then then post these notes online so that the kids that miss class can go online and find out what they missed that day, which is useful if they miss more than one day. The scribe will have to take good notes and be able to explain what went on during the class without using too many words and while keeping it interesting.

The scribe takes a detailed account of the discussions, lessons, and homework for a specific day, and then posts this account so anyone who was absent does not fall behind. The scribe has to be able to write clearly and use enough detail for someone who was not present to understand the lesson.

The scribe should record what we did in class and what our homework is. These records will be useful to absent students and to those who forgot to write down the homework. The notes will have to very detailed and give a good summary of what went on that day. For example, if there is a discussion what was it about? What were some good points that people made.

Scribing throughout history has been known as a very prestigious job. Through what I’ve learned, scribing was more than just reading and listening and repeating what you heard or read. Scribing consisted of looking at each letter, space, comma, period and recording it down on a piece of paper, making sure that there was no errors or that nothing was left out. The purpose behind scribing was to reproduce or reprint old documents, books, and papers, pretty much anything that contained information that was needed for further use. The reason why scribing was so important throughout history was because the paper that old historians and scholars wrote on was a leaf, I can’t remember what the leaf was called, and this leaf didn’t necessarily have a long life so thus the scribe was invented. These scribes had to know what they were doing and had to be very good at their job because there were many very important documents that constantly needed to be reprinted. I think the scribes that we will have in class should be attentive and organized and be willing to ask questions if they think something was left out. The scribe should treat the job very professionally because there is a whole class holding this person accountable to record everything that happened that day. Personally, scribing is and should be known as something that is not a joke, it’s meant to be taken seriously and that’s how I think our scribes should be.

Scribing is a job that has been handed down through out history and has become a very important part in our modern lives. If it wasn't for the scribes of early human life, today people would not know everything that they do. I want the scribes to be very thorough and precise, because if someone is gone, i would like to think that they could almost learn the entire lesson from what the scribe has written.

Lets see,I think scribing is when a person takes detailed notes on a subject (in our case Eng. Lit blk 4). The purpose behind scribing is to create a report of what went on at a certin place or event. The scribes fromt the last class seem very up beat and original. I would like our scribes to get the important facts written down but leave out excess details. I don't exactly know what requirements should be in place, but we can assess a good scribe by the amount of notes they take and the relevence of those notes.

I think scribing a class session would look alot like a outline of the day. It would show the highlights and the good discussions in the class and what the teacher says. I think it would sound like a script from a play. The requirements that should be in place for the scribe day thinks it should be.

After reading the 9th grade scribe examples that Ms. Smith posted, it makes me really excited to have a scribe. It was entertaining to read all the funny jokes that they mentioned in some of their scribe blogs, and it was great hearing exactly what went on in class for that day. I personally don't miss a lot of school, and so when I do I tend to stress out about getting my absent work in on time. Having the scribes available will make life a lot less stressful when I do miss class this semester for a college visit or whatever. I'm looking forward to all the new technology and advancements in the classroom this year with 21c.

Scribes are important so that we can keep information easily accessible and so we can hand down knowledge and experiences to the next generations. Scribes are a critical part of how our lives are today and how they will be in the future. I think this will be great for all of us that might miss school so we don't fall behind in our last year of high school.

The scribe is the one who has the painstaking duty of writing down everything that went on for a particular meeting or discussion, in our case, class. And although it may not be the most fun thing to do, I think that scribing is going to be very helpful. Not only will the notes from the previous days keep us informed if we were to miss any class, but I think they will help us connect our overall thoughts and themes throughout the semester.

Our scribes are the people who write a detailed description of the days conversation and activities. I think they need to get everything said in class so that the students who can't make it to class know what happened on that particular day. The best scribes will catch everything said in class. A good scribe will know they have done well when and absent student comes back acting like they never missed class.

I think scribing is a great idea because everyone in class can stay on the same page. The scriber should take very thorough and detailed notes so everyone, even those who were absent, has a really good idea of exactly what went on in class. This way, no one will fall behind and we can accomplish more. Like many people said, scribing has been a vital element in our history for communication and passing down ideas and knowledge to future generations. Without writing things down, everything will eventually be forgotten. This would essentially prevent us from progressing into the future.

By reading others point of view of scribing, It makes me think that scribing can be alot of things. We can make it to how we want it to look like, sound like and the requirements needed. It seems like it had alot to do with writing and reading. I definately think that scribing should be taken seriously because it is with great ideas, thoughts and knowledge put in it.

A scribe seems to take the minutes of each class and post them for people who were absent (or absent minded) to refer to. It will be important for the scribe to take detailed notes during class, and to review them when they are typing to make sure that only the important information is transferred. Reading the freshmen scribes, I got bored of all their lengthy commentary. I think it is fine to add in some humor, but to keep it at a minimum, as people will be reading not for entertainment but for information. I like Emily’s idea for the scribe to wear something that distinguishes them and get a cool pen- it will make them feel important!

A scribe should record the events and topics of class during the day, however they should also write down any outstanding or intriguing ideas students come up with. People reading the blog won’t want to know what happened every single minute of English Lit that day, they’ll want to see what happened as far as activities during the class, as well as any important information or concepts that were covered or reviewed. Also, I don’t think there should be a size limit to how much the scribe should have to write. As long it is good quality and somewhat consistent it should be more than acceptable.
